This Privacy Policy is here to help you understand how your information is collected, used, stored, and protected when you visit my website, get in touch, or engage in counselling with me.
I aim to handle personal data with care, transparency, and respect, in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018, and my professional and ethical responsibilities as a counsellor and member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

The Komorebi Space is a private counselling practice run by Danielle Bousquet, a UK-based pluralistic counsellor and psychotherapist. I am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) as a data controller (ICO registration number:ZC076280).

maintain appropriate clinical records
meet professional, ethical, and legal obligations
Under UK GDPR, the lawful bases I rely on include:
Legitimate interests (responding to enquiries and running the practice safely)
Contract (providing counselling once agreed)
Legal obligation (for example, financial record keeping)
For therapy-related data, processing necessary for health and care purposes, with consent where appropriate
Your information is not used for marketing.

I take data security seriously. Safeguards include:
password-protected laptop with access restricted to me only
password-protected documents for notes/records
encrypted devices (laptop/phone where applicable)
2-factor authentication (2FA) on my email account
secure, access-restricted storage for any paper records (locked cabinet)
Online working: Sessions take place via Google Meet. I do not record sessions. I ask clients not to record sessions without explicit written agreement.

In line with professional and legal requirements:
Therapy records are kept for 7 years after therapy ends.
Enquiry emails are deleted if counselling does not proceed.
Financial records are kept for 7 years (HMRC requirement).
After this period, data is securely deleted or destroyed.

Everything you share in counselling is treated as confidential in line with BACP’s Ethical Framework, which emphasises protecting client privacy and explaining reasonably foreseeable limitations in advance.
Confidentiality may be broken only if:
there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, including safeguarding concerns
disclosure is required by law or a court order
Where appropriate, I will discuss this with you first unless doing so would increase risk. -
Your personal data is not shared with third parties, advertisers, or marketing organisations.
Limited information may be shared only when:
required by law
necessary for safeguarding
discussed by first name only in clinical supervision

You have the right to ask me to access your personal information, correct it if it is inaccurate, delete it (where appropriate), and to limit or object to how I use your personal information in some circumstances. You can read more about your rights at ico.org.uk/your-data-matters.
If I hold personal information about you, you can request that I:
give you a description of what I hold and where it came from
explain why I am holding it, how long I will keep it, and how that retention period was decided
tell you who it could be disclosed to (if anyone)

You can also ask me at any time to correct any mistakes in the personal information I hold about you.

Please note that, in some situations, I may not be able to delete information immediately (for example, where I have legal or professional obligations to retain records). If this applies, I will explain why.

I am based in the UK and store data securely within GDPR-compliant systems. If you access counselling/psychotherapy from outside the UK, data protection laws in your country may differ, and I will ensure your privacy is respected in line with this policy.

If you submit the contact form, the information you enter (name, email, message content) is processed by Squarespace and sent to me by email. I use it only to respond to your enquiry and arrange sessions if relevant.
